Settings!
Best Practices
Best thing to do is to leave the settings alone! A great number of issues with the iPads are related to the settings!
My Big Campus and other secure websites require information stored in cookies to run properly. When an iPad has been cleared of its cookies, or when someone is running Safari in "Privacy" mode, cookies are no longer available. Cookies are a good thing. The only time it wouldn't be is if you are doing something that you shouldn't. Privacy mode is intended to protect sensitive material from being stored. There are times when Privacy mode is appropriate, but I don't know of anytime it would be appropriate for a student, unless they are doing online banking. (those are my thoughts anyway!) I don't know of anyone in K-8 who might need this feature.
PRIVACY SETTINGS
This is different than privacy mode on Safari. This is in your settings. It has been my experience to leave the location services turned "ON". When you click on it, it gives you a list of the apps that want to use "Location Services". You can manage how you want each app set up here. Remember, that some apps do not work appropriately unless this has been turned on. Whenever you click something on the iPad and it asks for this to be turned on, say yes!
This is also the place to go if apps that want to access your photos are not working. Go to "Settings", "Privacy", then "Photos" to turn on permission for your app to access photos.
iCloud
I would leave it alone on school devices.
App listings
Depending on the app, you may have some extra control of how it works by clicking on the app in settings. Most of the time, it just gives information about the app.
